Accommodation
Chitabe Camp
Chitabe Camp is situated in a private concession area on an island in the south-east of the Okavango Delta. Playing host to a breathtaking mosaic of wooded, wetland and grassland habitats, the area is famed for its incredible numbers and diversity of wildlife, in particular predators.
The camp’s eight spacious Meru-style tents are raised on wooden decks under large, shady trees. Each tent has twin beds, en-suite facilities and indoor and outdoor showers. The thatched dining area, bar and lounge are built on raised decks to provide superb views across the floodplain, and a pool allows you to cool off in the heat of the day.
Little Vumbura Camp
Little Vumbura is situated on a beautiful island in a private concession in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Surrounded as it is by water and lying close to large rivers, both water- and land-based activities are as central to the overall experience, with both offering spectacular and diverse wildlife sightings.
Little Vumbura is a beautiful six-roomed tented camp shaded by the canopy of an ancient forest. Each well-appointed tent has en-suite facilities and a deck with incredible vistas. A plunge pool and reading area overlook the floodplains while a star deck is reached by a bridge from the dining area.
Savuti Camp
Savuti Camp is situated in the private Linyanti Concession along the Savute Channel, famous as a sporadic and unusual watercourse. As part of a natural cycle, the waters of the Savute either flow strongly – a magnet for thirsty wildlife – or recede to leave behind a rich grassland. Regardless, both plains game and predators thrive, and exploring the length of the Channel and its associated woodlands is thus a highlight here.
This intimate camp's en-suite accommodation is in seven large, raised tents. From the camp's thatched dining area, elevated wooden decks extend out over the channel bed, with a small pool, fire pit and wonderful views along and across the channel.
Itinerary
Days 1 to 4: Okavango Private Concession
Chitabe Camp
You will be met at Maun Airport and your charter flight to Chitabe will take around 20mins. This incredible private concession embodies all those Okavango photos you see with vast, seasonally flooded areas. This attracts huge numbers of wildlife from Hippos to Elephants and African Wild Dog to Cheetah, couple this with superb activities and excellent guiding, you will have a truly excellent experience.
The lodge itself has some truly superb luxury with service to go with it and views out across the floodplains which are the envy of most camps. An incredible all round area with superb wildlife year round this is a must for many travellers.
Days 4 to 7: Okavango Private Concession
Little Vumbura Camp
After a morning activity you will fly to Little Vumbura taking around 25 mins with stunning views of the Okavango and Chief's Island. Little Vumbura sits on an isolated island in the middle of the private Kwedi concession surrounded by permanent waters and seasonal floodplains. This is simply the best camp anywhere in Africa, just for its location alone but the accommodation, while not the very high-end, is still truly stunning.
Activities are varied here with water and land activities available right from camp but to get to the land activities you must first go by boat. Wildlife here is as good as anywhere with regular Predator sightings but the highlight is the number of Sable Antelope and your ability to get reasonably close to this usually very shy animal. One of our favourite places.
Days 7 to 10: Linyanti Private Concession
Savuti Camp
After a morning activity you will fly to Savuti Camp taking around 35 mins with stunning views of Chobe. This is one of our favourite camps in the Linyanti region in one of the best private concessions. Linyanti has a reputation for being very seasonal in sightings but in this concession you can ignore this usual idea as you can get superb sightings year round. Known in particular for its Elephant herds this area also has excellent Buffalo sightings and is probably the best place to see Lions in the Linyanti.
Activities here are on land and water and if the Savuti channel is flowing (which is certainly not guaranteed) then the unique canoeing trips can take place but also night and day game drives are available along with walking safaris. You also have the opportunity (subject to availability) to sleep out under the stars on one their sleepout platforms. Your final day will see you fly to Maun or Kasane for your onward journey.
