Elsa's Kopje

Meru, Kenya

About Elsa's Kopje

Named after the lioness raised by Joy Adamson, Elsa's Kopje is carved directly into the rocks of Mughwango Hill in Meru National Park. The lodge offers dramatic, 360-degree views over the park’s rugged landscape, which is defined by riverine forests, wide plains, and distant mountains. The accommodation consists of spacious, open-fronted cottages built from stone and thatch, blending perfectly into the hillside. Meru is known for its wild, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere and diverse game, including lion, elephant, and reticulated giraffe. The experience here is sophisticated yet raw, focusing on the history of the park and the sheer scale of the untamed wilderness. It remains one of the most unique and iconic properties in Kenya, perfect for those seeking seclusion and history.

Why we like it

The integration of the rooms into the ancient kopje rock face is an architectural triumph, offering some of the most dramatic views in all of Kenya.
