Wilderness Bisate
About Wilderness Bisate
Wilderness Bisate occupies a reclaimed agricultural site on the edge of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. The lodge consists of six spherical, thatch-roofed villas positioned on the eroded cone of an ancient volcano. Each villa features a private deck, a fireplace, and interior finishes of volcanic stone and wood. Views from the property extend directly toward the peaks of Karisimbi, Bisoke, and Mikeno. Primary activities focus on tracking mountain gorillas and golden monkeys within the surrounding rain forest, conducted via daily permits issued by the park authority. Guests engage with local conservation programs, including the reforestation project that has planted thousands of indigenous trees on the property grounds. On-site staff facilitate guided walks, bird watching sessions, and visits to neighboring communities to observe local agricultural practices. The lodge operates on a solar-powered grid and integrates waste management systems to minimize environmental impact. Access requires a transfer from Kigali, followed by a drive through the high-altitude landscape of the Musanze district. Temperatures vary significantly by time of day, and the architecture emphasizes thermal efficiency to manage the mountain climate.
