Kusini Serengeti
About Kusini Serengeti
Nestled among the ancient granite outcrops of the southern Serengeti, Kusini Serengeti represents a return to the pioneering spirit of the classic African safari. Operated by Nomad Tanzania, this intimate camp occupies a legendary site once held by Sanctuary Retreats, now reimagined as a "light-footed" sanctuary with just six canvas tents. Perched on a massive rocky kopje, the camp offers sweeping, 360-degree views of the surrounding acacia woodlands and the predator-rich plains that stretch toward the horizon. The design is one of "barefoot luxury"—simple yet sophisticated, emphasizing a deep connection to the wilderness over modern distractions. The camp’s ethos is centered on the art of the slow safari. With a dedicated focus on walking safaris and kopje climbing, guests are encouraged to step out of the vehicle and into the rhythm of the bush. Days are defined by the sunrise over the Moru Kopjes and evenings spent around a communal campfire, where stories of the day’s sightings are shared under a vast, unpolluted sky. Whether you are witnessing the dramatic calving season of the Great Migration or tracking resident big cats through the golden grass, Kusini provides an exclusive, off-grid experience far from the more crowded central circuits of the park.
Why we like it
Kusini Serengeti offers an unmatched sense of seclusion as one of the few permanent anchors in the park’s remote southwest, providing guests with private Nomad guides and vehicles to explore a territory famous for its high density of cheetahs and resident lions.
